Identification Of Poisonous And Non Poisonous Snake

Recognizable proof Of Poisonous And Non Poisonous Snake Presentation Snakes are one of the most fascinating reptilian animals of earth. They are intriguing with respect to the reason for concentrate just as examination and that is so a result of the one character they have in them and that is there Poison which is called by the name of Venom. Not at all like all reptile snakes are harmful however not every one of them. A couple of animal categories among them neglected to get that character. This venom go about as both valuable weapon just as guard shield against its implore and adversary. The snake venom is an unsafe protein and portrayed by complex sytheses. It is vile egg-like gooey fluid having marginally fishy smell. It is the mind boggling set of hurtful toxicants just as proteins. Other than toxicants and proteins the snake venom contains a few peptides, amino acids, starches, lipids, nucleosides, natural amines and metal particles, which make it considerably more intricate than other ordinary proteins. Venom contains in excess of 20 sorts of compounds and poisons, yet the fundamental elements of the venom are harmful proteins. The harmful part present in snake venom changes as indicated by the snake species or even the venom emitted by a similar snake in various season may likewise differ. This progressions the quality of various snake venom and chooses its job in pharmacological, toxicological and clinical field. Snake venom essentially comprises of neurotoxins, cardiotoxins, poisons that cause blood coagulating, draining poisons (that stops the blood thickening and blood stays to stream consistently considerably after injury), destructive catalysts and other significant segments. The cytotoxic venom is more viable than the neurotoxic sort venom, and it will work very quickly to the prey, for example, the mouse and frogs. In spite of the fact that the snakes are extremely quiet and revolting creatures (aside from a couple ones) yet death rate related with the snakebites is a genuine general medical issue in practically all the locale of the world, particularly in rustic regions where clinical offices are low or missing. In India, greater part of chomps and mortality are because of King cobra, naja, Daboia Russelli Russells snake, Bangarus caeruleus (basic krait) and Echis carinatus (saw-scaled snake). [1.1] Frequency of snake chomp Around 35,000 to 50,000 individuals allegedly kick the bucket of snake chomp in India consistently; be that as it may, the unreported cases might be more in provincial India. Assessed snake chomps and (passing) cases were accounted for as 25,000(30) in Europe; 6 20,000(100) in Middle East; 45,000(15) in USA and Canada; 3,00,000( 5,000) in Central and South America; 10,00,000(20,000) in Africa; 40,00,000 (1,00,000) in Asia; 10,000 (200) in Oceania all complete overall 5 million ( 1,25,000). Passing rate because of snake chomp is fairly uncommon in Australia, Europe and North America however visit in South Asia, South-East Asia and Sub-Sahar an Africa. In Zimbabwe on 274 cases contemplated, 4 out of 5 3, 6, 7 kids passed on who are under 8 years of age. [1.2] Identification of noxious and non-toxic snake (source:www.buzzle.com//venomous-snake-distinguishing proof recognizing harmful snakes.html) Noxious snakes by and large have the characters like Vertically curved formed feline like student. A little melancholy (named pit) between the eyes and nostrils. Triangle formed head for example Copperheads and clatter snakes, special case Elapids. Underside sizes of tail go totally right across in a solitary line from the butt-centric plate; the very tip of the tail may have two scale columns. Head and body both are seen during swimming time. For the most part of numerous hues. Interestingly, non-toxic snakes by and large have the characters like: Round student in the focal point of eye. U molded head. Two lines of scales from the vent to the last part. Just head is seen during swimming time. By and large of one shading. For the most part stripes are from head to tail. [1.3] Utility of Snake Venom Snake venoms are utilized to control heart ailments, hypertension, malignant growth (contortrostain delivered by Agkistrodon contortrix-is cytostatic in nature and found to bring down the development pace of bosom malignant growth in mice), tumor, polio, neurological clutters (catalysts from cobra venom were found to fix Parkinson s and Alzheimers sicknesses), over the top dying (a blood thickening protein in Taipan venom quit seeping during medical procedure or after significant injury), blood coagulating (ancrod got from Malyan pit snake, used to create angiotensin changing over compound inhibitors to treat stroke casualties), extreme hypersensitivities among others. Other fascinating territories of snake venom incorporate the treatment of infections (as venom contain phospholipidases which separate cell film), maturing and some are even utilized in business wrinkle cream! [1.4] Phospholipase-A2 Phospholipase A2 is one of the most seriously considered layer proteins which hydrolyze phospholipids at the sn-2 situation to shape unsaturated fat and lysophospholipid items. These are little proteins and the 3-D structures are known to high goals for a few animal categories. Phospholipase A2 proteins are of high pharmaceutical worry since they are liable for the arrival of arachidonic corrosive from films, and since the resulting transformation of this unsaturated fat to leukotrienes and prostaglandins is a piece of the incendiary reaction. The catalyst additionally shows exceptionally intriguing communications with the layer on which it ties. It is enacted somehow or another when it communicates with totaled types of the substrate, for example, in micelles or in bilayers. Electrostatic and hydrophobic cooperations are suspected to be associated with the official of the chemical to the film. Next to no is known about the chemical film complex structure and why the compound respond s significantly more productively once it ties its substrates in an accumulated structure. The phospholipid particle comprises of a glycerol-3-phosphate (blue shading) esterified at its sn-1 and sn-2 situations to non-polar unsaturated fats (R1 and R2, individually) and at its phosphoryl gathering to a polar head gathering, X. Phospholipase A1 and phospholipase A2 divide the acyl ester bonds at sn-1 and sn-2, separately. Phospholipase C divides the glycerophosphate bond while phospholipase D evacuates the head gathering, X. PLA, phospholipase A; PLC, phospholipase C; PLD, phospholipase D. Phospholipases2.png Fig-1.1: Phospholipase A2 Structure [1.5] Phospholipase-A2 (PLA2) Activity In the wake of entering inside the group of person venom containing PLA2 compound beginning influencing the phone films of practically all the phone organelles. Since cell organelles containing cell film are comprised of phospholipids, subsequently this phospholipids go about as a reactant for phospholipase a2 and begin responding with it. This phospholipase a2 will in general structure arachidonic corrosive which has a fiery sensation and this arachidonic corrosive further changed over into PGG2 by utilizing cyclooxygenases. This PGG2 further translated into PGH2 which structures 3 fundamental mixes PGD2, PGF2, and PGE2. Based on the ester bond that is separated inside a phospholipid particle, phospholipases are gathered into four families, specifically A, B, C and D. Phospholipase A chemicals separate the acyl ester security at either the sn-1 (phospholipase A1) or sn-2 (phospholipase A2) position (Figure 1). The Whoterm phospholipase B is given to phospholipases that hydrolyze acyl ester bonds at both sn-1 and sn-2 positions. Proteins assembled under phospholipase C separate the glycerophosphate security, while phospholipase D chemicals evacuate the polar head gathering. In human Annexin the regular cell protein is found inside the cell. Anyway outside the cell the annexin is additionally found inside the blood since they are moved out of the cell into the blood. This is a result of the absence of a sign peptide fundamental for protein to be shipped out of the cell. Since there are diverse dataset had been now arranged yet couldn't found the IC50 esteem, because of which the chipping away at this dataset couldn't be completed further. [1.6] Quantitative Structure Analysis Relationship (QSAR) QSAR assumes a significant job in lead structure advancement and it very well may be anticipated that QSAR technique will get basic for taking care of the colossal measure of information related with combinatorial science. 3D-QSAR has just been effectively applied to numerous informational indexes of chemical and receptor ligands. The organic action of atoms is normally estimated in measures to build up the degree of restraint of specific sign transduction or metabolic pathways. Synthetic concoctions can likewise be organically dynamic by being poisonous. Medication revelation frequently includes the utilization of QSAR to recognize substance structures that could have great inhibitory impacts on explicit targets and have low harmfulness (vague movement). Of uncommon intrigue is the forecast of Log P, which is a significant measure utilized in distinguishing drug-similarity as indicated by Lipinskis Rule of Five. While numerous Quantitative Structure Activity Relationship examination s [9] include the collaborations of a group of particles with a chemical or receptor restricting site, QSAR can likewise be utilized to consider the cooperations between the auxiliary spaces of proteins. As in the article Structural displaying broadens QSAR examination of immune response lysozyme communications to 3D-QSAR, protein-protein connections can be quantitatively investigated for auxiliary varieties came about because of site-coordinated mutagenesis. In this examination, a wild-type immune response explicit for lysozyme and 17 single and twofold freaks of the counter acting agent were explored. Quantitative models for the liking of the counter acting agent antigen collaboration were created. [1.6.1] 3D-QSAR The 3D-QSAR strategies have been created to improve the expectation exactnesses of 2D techniques. 3D strategies are computationally more unpredictable and requesting than 2D approaches. It means the writer will hav e a clear idea of what they are trying to say without having to re-write and re-edit the text. The document will be even shorter than the length of the essay is when re-worked.The Foolscap writing paper is not difficult to follow when it comes to grammar and spelling. Most writers do not need any help from a writing instructor to be able to navigate the page correctly. When they are aware of the rules, it will save them from a lot of mistakes. They can get on with the writing without worrying about what another student may not think of their work.In addition to these benefits, the writing paper format also allows the writer to express themselves in a more enjoyable manner. Everyday Use by Alice Walker A Look at Symbolism and...

Alice Walkers â€Å"Everyday Use†, is a story about a family of African Americans that are faced with moral issues involving what true inheritance is and who deserves it. Two sisters and two hand stitched quilts become the center of focus for this short story. Walker paints for us the most vivid representation through a third person perspective of family values and how people from the same environment and upbringing can become different types of people. Kodak Strategy free essay sample

Introduction Eastman Kodak Company, also known as Kodak is a digital imaging and photography company which is best known for its photographic film products. One of the most dominant companies of its time, Kodak made photography available to the masses, but failed to adapt its business model to the development of digital photography. Recently by shedding many of the businesses that made them famous, Kodak has emerged from bankruptcy and also coming back to New York stock exchange. Now Kodak is concentrating on selling printing equipment and services to businesses. 1.1 A Brief History of Kodak: Pioneer of Film and Digital Photography Eastman Kodak Company commonly known as Kodak is an American multinational imaging and photographic equipment, materials and services company. It’s headquartered is in Rochester, New York, United States and incorporated in New Jersey. It was founded by George Eastman in 1888.You press the button, we do the rest promised George Eastman in 1888 with this advertisi ng slogan for his Kodak camera. Kodak began to sell their version of the instant camera in June 1976 to expand its market. The camera was called the Pronto which spit out a picture card which formed into a picture before the photographers eyes. The idea was successful and although Kodak’s ten picture pack of film was more expensive than Polaroid’s, several Japanese companies made cameras that used the new Kodak Film. (Time Magazine, 1976) Soon after, the disposable camera became popular. According to statistics, U. S. sales of disposable cameras grew 30% a year. Kodak sells more than anyone else, allowing Kodak to have sufficient cash flow to invest in a digital future. In the mid 1990’s Kodak’s innovators began to dabble with digital photography. In fact, they invented the first digital camera and realized that digital technology would transform their business. By the year 2000, Kodak had sunk more than $5 billion into digital investments during the 1990s, but received only $20 million in digital earnings in 1999 to show for it. Daniel Carp, the latest Chief Executive at Eastman Kodak stated that â€Å"digital can generate half of revenue and quarter of profits by 2005†. (Upbin, 2000, para. #3) So why wasn’t Kodak getting a return on their investment? One of the main issues that plagued the Eastman Kodak Company was not their innovation, but their timing in their marketing strategy and their assessment of the adaptability of its consumers. Kodak missed out on several holiday seasons where digital camera growth was high and failed to get a leg up on the competition back in 1996. The company was unable to â€Å"wean itself† from traditional film business. They have three major customer bases. The first is the Photofinishing Group which makes up almost 1/3 of sales. This group is made up of Kodak’s traditional film products and services that the average customer uses, plus products used by the film industry to reproduce and distribute motion pictures. The second group, not formed until 2003, is the Graphic Communications Group (GCG). It’s Kodak’s largest division which includes document imaging and digital printing services for businesses. The third group relates to healthcare services and is called the Health Group. This group specializes in healthcare imaging products such as x-ray devices and specialized films. To catch up to their competition, Kodak created a fourth group, the Consumer Digital Group, to change their main product line from traditional film to digital products. They turned their focus to digital cameras and printers, photo kiosks (like at CVS and Wal-Mart) and online photo sharing. Wikinvest, 2007) The problem was they did not react to the market until almost 2 years after their fierce competitors, such as Hewlett Packard, Canon, and Sony began to overtake the business. The irony is that although Kodak created many digital products that were ahead of their time, such as the Photo CD and high-end digital cameras, Kodak continued to focus their marketing strategy on the investor rat her than the customer. It is unfortunate because many of the digital imaging products that Kodak introduced, and that we still use today, did not get the commitment they deserved from their creators. Because of their own corporate reluctance to replace their main base of income (traditional film), many investors questioned whether it was too late for Kodak to join the digital age. (Nikondigital. org, 2007, para. #2) Timing was not the only problem. Kodak had digital competition from the evolution of the internet, the Sony Corporation, Hewlett Packard, and Canon, to name a few. Despite the invention of the digital camera, Kodak fell behind in efficiency profit margins and sheer sales. The company failed to market other media devices leaving Hewlett Packard and Lexmark to dominate the printer industry. Kodak is now trying to catch up in that area. Kodak needed to make several adjustments in their marketing strategy, develop their product line, promote their product, rethink their distribution efforts and develop a pricing strategy to steal market shares from industry leaders. With a new management philosophy and marketing strategy, Kodak realized the need to adjust its consumables. Most of Kodak’s traditional photography was based on their services, their paper and ink. With the addition of digital imagery, that had to change. Chemicals, to produce the photos were no longer needed for digital photography. How could Kodak compensate for the changing technology? Putting their innovators to the test, Kodak came up with the EasyShare family of cameras. It became one of Kodak’s biggest successes. Even today, it is still the â€Å"simplest way to get started in digital† photography. (Nikondigital. org, 2007, para. #7) Kodak developed this type of camera by studying how camera users take and print pictures and how it fits into their daily lives. Their research paid off. Kodak focused on low-priced, easy-to-use cameras that would appeal to women, who take the majority of snapshots. In 2004 the competition with Sony, the largest digital camera maker, paid off with a rise from a 5% market share in 2000 to a 19% share in 2004. (Hansell, 2004) In addition to the EasyShare system, category expansion has increased Kodak’s consumer base. One of the ways they accomplished this is by developing effective partnerships. To compete with some of the industry leaders, Kodak developed the â€Å"Kodak Gallery† an online photo sharing site which allows consumers to upload their photos and share them with friends and family. This competes with sites like Shutterfly and Photobucket. It recently partnered with Martha Stewart, Apple, Microsoft, and Amazon. com. (Wikinvest, 2007) Kodak has also planned investment in Lucky Film, Co. Ltd which will strengthen its position in Asia, and has increased its interest in medical markets. They have acquired PracticeWorks, a leader in digital dental imaging, and have improved their economic performance with Kodak Directview PACS System 5 for radiologists. (Eastman Kodak Company, 2004) To promote their products, Kodak has used the traditional advertising as well as some creative promotion techniques. Kodak wants to develop the customers of traditional cameras into future consumers of digital products. One of the ways they are doing this is donating 5,000 traditional cameras to those provinces in China that are not familiar with photography. As China’s rural areas become more economically independent, Kodak hopes to capture the market. This allows Kodak to continue its traditional (bread and butter) line of products to third world nations while focusing the digital sales to the United States, Canada and some European countries. (China Daily, 2004) One way to focus those sales in the U. S. is Kodak’s distribution to direct marketers who want to customize their flyers or retail changes that need variable posters. Digital technology makes it possible to economically print custom copies of anything and at almost any volume. They want to â€Å"elevate print and other visual communications for creativity and commerce†. (Sherburne, 2007, para. #3) Kodak is introducing the MarketMover Network, designed to focus on small business in a similar fashion that the Kodak Creative Network does, where the consumers create the photo books, calendars and flyers. Finally, Kodak’s pricing strategies had to be dramatic. One of the best things we hear about Kodak is the â€Å"quality of their service†. The problem is the competition is rapidly meeting Kodak’s quality standards. In 2007, Kodak developed KOS, the Kodak Operating System to streamline the production system and incorporate that into all aspects of Kodak’s operations. It changed their management philosophy. This had some effect on not only their marketing strategies, but their pricing strategies. In the past, companies were willing to sacrifice profits on the â€Å"durable† portion of their product – the printer, to make money on the â€Å"consumable† portion – printer cartridges. In February of that year, Kodak announced a new pricing strategy. It was a long term competitive dynamic disruption strategy. The strategy was aimed at reducing the cost of printing photos for the average consumer. Consumers will have to change their behavior to focus on printing costs instead of hardware costs. (Neff, 2007) In addition, the new printers will not have as many features as Hewlett-Packard printers currently have. This could corner an aging market that has not wanted to purchase â€Å"fancy† printers due to the challenge of technology. However, there is a growing share of private label recycled ink cartridges. Kodak will need to maintain their focus not only on the pricing of their ink cartridges, but they should reinforce the â€Å"quality† aspect of their product. During the past two decades, the Eastman Kodak has struggled with the advent of digital photography. What sets Kodak apart? Kodak is not a computer company, nor is Kodak a company which dabbles in several industries. They are focused on print products and photography.

Life is unpredictable Essays - Szd Speech, , Term Papers

Life is unpredictable Life is Unpredictable 1 We all leave the warmth and security of our homes every day whether it is to go to work, school, do errands or visit a friend. While the reasons vary from one day to the next there is one common denominator and that is the assumption that when we leave our homes we will be returning to them later in the day. In most cases, this is a safe assumption and we are able to come and go throughout the day returning safely to our house, family and lives at the end of each day. However, the reality is that while we would like to believe that we will always be safe, life does happen and there are people that wake up in the morning, drink a cup of coffee, read the paper, leave the house and never return. People lose their lives every day and the reasons can be many including a sudden heart attack or a tragic car accident. Regardless of the reasons, it is important to remember that life is short and we truly don't know what each day will bring. I am not writing this to be negative but instead to serve as an important reminder that life is fragile and we need to embrace every moment given every single day. I have thought about how often I have rushed out of my home in the morning leaving dirty dishes on the counter, a mess in the bathroom, unfinished projects and most important without saying goodbye to a loved one because I was running late. Like most people, I fall prey to the illusion that I will be returning home later in the day and can clean up the messes, finish the projects and have quality time with the people I love later. In the end, the messy house and unfinished projects are not that important but I challenge all of us to think hard about the importance of our loved ones and unfinished business with those we love. How often have we left for work without a goodbye, a hug or saying "I love you"? How often have we left angry and full of resentment refusing to forgive or resolve an issue with someone we truly care about? My guess is that this is something we can all relate to and have experienced at some point in our lives. Remember that there are never any guarantees on any given day and that while we need to think positive and live each day to the fullest we must also appreciate the blessings in our lives and those that we love. Don't take that chance of having wished you had told someone that you loved them or that you forgave them only to have it be too late. I can promise you that no argument or those few minutes you saved by rushing out the door will be worth it if life steps in and someone doesn't come home. Life is so precious and each and every day that we are given is truly a miracle so please live life to the fullest, practice gratitude, learn to forgive, spread kindness every chance you get and most of all love others. It will make each day so much better for everyone around and we can leave our homes knowing that regardless of what the day may hold we have truly lived our best life! 2 Life is unpredictable. Sometimes no matter how perfect your plan is, it turns out to be the other way round. When this happen has you ever stop and think? Maybe God has another plan for you? Or do you find blames in other people? Do you ever stop and try to reflect your own self? Sometimes, we just too ignorant to admit that we are on the wrong track. Sometimes, we just trying so hard to get what we want. But worst of all, sometimes, we always see other peoples life are much more fun, perfect and happier than us. We envy them so much until we forgot that happiness can exist in little things that we take for granted. 3 In life, we come across many challenges. Some of them make us who we are while

Ousource ADPC Precument to Tejari

Ousource ADPC Precument to Tejari Introduction Procurement outsourcing involves the outsourcing of a company’s major procurement operations to another organisation. This research study focuses on investigating how effective it would be to outsource ADCP’s procurement activities to Teraji. In order to accomplish this, the study must first investigate the need to outsource, and subsequently analyse the efficiency of outsourcing to Teraji.Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Ousource ADPC Precument to Tejari specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More It is important to consider outsourcing the procurement activities of ADPC due to the important role procurement plays in supporting the core competencies of the company. While procurement does not stand as one of the organisations core competency, it remains an important function in the company as it is one of the only activities that takes place in all three-core competencies. The Problem With th e increasing complexity in Abu Dhabi’s fleet management, it is important for companies in the maritime industry to focus on accomplishing their core competency activities. Procurement (an element of company logistics) is the major non-core activity, which results in time and resource consumption. Considering that ADPC’s major functions include the maintenance, refurbishing, and development of the seaports, it is possible to outsource procurement. Should ADPC effectively implement these outsourcing activities, it will be able to maximise the potential of available time and resources. Due to the increase in fleet flow in Abu Dhabi, it is important for the management of ADPC to consider the possible applicable measures for improving its performance. The major way to do this is to ensure that the company limits its key performance indicators to the available resources. Thus, it is necessary for ADPC to outsource other time and resource consuming organisational activities, which may include procurement. The proposed solution In order to solve the problem of complex procurement, and to allow the ADPC focus on its primary goals, this project seeks to investigate the feasibility of outsourcing ADPCs procurement operations to Tejari service. In procurement outsourcing, a company transfers all, or a major part, of its logistics functions to third party companies.Advertising Looking for research paper on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Procurement outsourcing may be done to cut down costs or to create room for the company to concentrate on other significantly important organisational operations. Considering that the core company of ADPCs operations is measurable based on its ability to ensure effective fleet management in all commercial seaports, it may be necessary to outsource some of the activities that are less related to the organisations key performance indicator. The major functions of the ADPC are to ensure swift response to maintenance, refurbishment, and improvement of each port it oversees. These activities are not only tedious, but also require high levels of procurement and inventory management. In order to ensure that it can effectively focus on its core operations, ADPC needs to outsource its procurement activities to a company that is formidable and permits procurement via up-to-date methods. Tejari is an electronic marketplace that facilitates real time trading between different companies over the internet. Tejari has an experience of more than ten years in internet procurement and offers excellent services to many companies located in the Arab Gulf. Tejari offers extensive internet based procurement and logistic services. With over 100000 clients using Tejari’s internet based purchase systems, the company is now known for its honest, cost-efficient and excellent procurement procedures. It is anticipated that if ADPC outsour ces its procurement activities to Tejari, it would have more time and resources to focus on performing its core operational activities. While procurement is a major element required for ADPC to accomplish its core operations, it is important to note that procurement is more of a secondary operational function driving the company’s success. Therefore, there are no considerable risks associated with outsourcing the procurement operations of the company to Tejari.Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Ousource ADPC Precument to Tejari specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Assessing Tejari’s Efficiency It will be necessary to investigate how effective Tejari will handle ADPC’s procurement activities. Tejari’s efficiency will be measured by performing a satisfaction survey targeting some of its current and past clients. The survey will measure different satisfaction variables ranging from the us er friendliness of Terajis online procurement interphase, to the physical promptness of the companys service delivery. The outcomes of the survey will be analysed to identify the customer satisfaction levels of the participants as the types of services the customers appreciate. This way, it will be possible for the researcher to recommend the best approach ADPC should follow in outsourcing its products to Teraji. Conclusion This outline presented an overview of the activities that would be contained in the report. While a solution has already been proposed for ADPC to follow in order to increase its focus on its core operations, it is important to investigate the efficacy of applying the proposed approach. This outline summarized the proposed solution. It also explains the process the report will apply in examining the effectiveness of the proposed approach. A survey analysis will be used to investigate the satisfaction levels of previous Teraji clients; their responses will be used to draw conclusions, hence a final recommendation.

The Battle of Tours Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

The Battle of Tours - Essay Example The Battle of Tours occurred in October of 732. The participants were the Frankish leader Charles Martel and Abdul Rahman Al Ghafiqi of the Umayyad Empire. The Franks were one of the first Germanic tribes to convert to Christianity and the Umayyad Empire was the strongest Muslim empire of the day. The Franks were located in Central and Eastern France. They forged a close alliance with the remnants of the Christian Church located in Rome. The Church helped provide money so that Charles Martel could train his soldiers year round. This was necessary because of the advances of the Muslim Caliphate into Western Europe (Wood, 1999). The Umayyad Empire was established after the original Muslim Empire founded by the Rightly Guided Caliphs collapsed. The Umayyad Empire conquered the whole of the old Persian Empire, much of the Byzantine Empire and all of Northern Africa. They crossed the Straits of Gibraltar and slowly conquered the while of the Iberian Peninsula. Ever seeking to expand the E mpire and Islam, general Abdul Rahman Al Ghafiqi built upon the acquisition of lands on the other side of the Pyrenees Mountains. His plan was to push North and East, eventually surrounding Rome and ending the presence of Christianity in Western Europe. The only army that was large enough to withstand the assault of the Muslim invaders was that of Charles Martel (Cantor, 1994). Rome was still reeling from the German invasions of the century before. The Roman Empire was defunct, so Charles Martel and his army of 30-40 thousand soldiers was the last line of defense for European Christianity. Some historians today argue that the Battle of Tours is overrated. They say that it was really nothing more than the defeat of a small Muslim exploratory party. The fact is Muslim and Christian historians and chroniclers of the battle have produced many sources that dispute these modern day historians. The Battle of Tours was very important for the history of Christianity. Part of the reason Charl es Martel was able to win the Battle of Tours was the element of surprise. The Franks had leaned from experience that the only way they could battle the military might of the Umayyad forces was to catch them overconfident and off guard. Duke Odo had done this nearly two decades earlier at the Battle of Toulouse. Under siege, he surprised the Muslim warriors with a counter attack that took advantage of their sloppy preparation and overconfidence. It was Odo’s recent defeat on the battlefield that convinced Charles Martel to organize his troops for a surprise attack on the invaders. After forcing a pledge of allegiance from Odo, Martel began the expansion of the Carolingian empire by organizing his troops for counterattack against the Umayyad troops. Charles Martel organized his troops on a semi-wooded hillside near where two small rivers converged in the Loire valley. He needed this place because it gave him the high ground and the trees provided cover for his troops. The tree s served the purpose of breaking up the charges by the Umayyad cavalry and concealing the true number of his troops. When the Muslim troops arrived in the plain at the food of the plateau he occupied, they were completely surprised to see their way blocked by the Franks. One stroke of luck enjoyed by Charles Martel was the fact that the rapid advancement of the Umayyad troops up the Loire valley had separated them from their supply chain. As a result, the entire army had broken into several

Technology entrepreneur - Case Study Example Here, files were stored on the internet and could be accessed from any computer that had Dropbox and in the network. According to Houston, Dropbox took the best elements of subversion, trac and rsyn and made them just work. Unlike other file storage companies, Dropbox’s model was framed in a way that it was simple to use. Despite the calls for additional features that could alter the initial company plan, Houston, and fellow co-founder, maintains the simple image as a selling point. In their model, they championed for two platforms namely; the free platform and premium platform. In the open platform, he planned to offer 1-gigabyte storage space for any user and a charge for the additional storage. It is contrary to the premium account where individuals and medium-sized enterprises would subscribe to pay. Dropbox offers extra free storage to members that refer others to the program (Kotler and Deans 336) The Y Combinator was an incubation program where startups applied for consideration for training and mentorship. At the end of the three-month program, each startup would pitch to potential investors and had a possibility of getting much funding. For Dropbox founders, all went well and were admitted to the program. While in the program, they held two hypotheses; Targeting individuals and businessmen was most viable and secondly; targeting companies was difficult due to bureaucracies. Houston also believed that making Dropbox simple was the right recipe for success. By June of 2010, he confirmed that using individuals and businessmen as an entry-to-market strategy worked. Medium sized organizations could not allow an employee to use Dropbox to store files unless certified by the IT department. However, this was a challenge in that, to be approved, testing was necessary. Additionally, the need for extra features to meet client needs was

Different Propaganda Means in World War II Essay Example for Free

Different Propaganda Means in World War II Essay 1. Introduction a) General Background We know that propaganda used in war had effects on the outcome of the war from GCSE Modern World History second edition that propaganda means used in war had contributed to the war efforts which directly affected the outcome of the war. Many propaganda means such as movies and songs flourished during this era and even until today. b) Rationale of Research Our paper aims to show how the propaganda means helped to contribute to the war effort by blinding the civilians from facts, so that they would continue to support the government in their war efforts and not lose poise in the war. The sources that we have selected were produced and used at the period of war and thus are eligible as a primary source. c) Research Questions * How does propaganda affect the outcome of war? * How effectual is each different mean of propaganda? d) Scope of Research We will only be looking at the 4 different means of propaganda stated: o Chaplins (1940) movie- The Great Dictator o Almanac Singers (1942) song- Round and Round Hitlers Grave o Clampetts (1942) cartoon- Any Bonds Today o Smiths (1942) propaganda poster about war bonds We will also bring in historical knowledge that we obtained from the books and websites indicated in the bibliographical section. e) Limitations of Research Our paper will only discuss how propaganda is effective in the primary sources that we will be using. We will only mention how effective each of these sources are, bringing in historical background to support our view. Our paper will only be discussing on these specific sources mentioned and not propaganda as a whole broad topic. 2. Literature Review Chaplins and Clampetts movies plus Almanac Singers song criticised the Axis Powers. They were anti-Nazi Propaganda and were efficient in spreading propaganda. Clampetts cartoons and Smiths poster appealed to the Americans to support the war through buying war bonds. Chaplins movie shows that Hitler is uncivilized, as seen in a cake fight whilst discussing war issues with Italy-an ally. Clampetts cartoon shows that the Axis Powers were uncooperative when they stepped on the Dove of Peace. Almanac Singers song lyrics (Appendix 2) was insulting, Wished I had old Hitler /with a rope around his neck and continues about dancing round Hitlers grave. The first movie was produced to ridicule Hitler with very little purpose except for a speech (Appendix 3) because America was still a neutral country during 1940, but in Europe war had commenced. All resources made use of either audio or visual. It was the era whereby poems were no longer effectual and popular means of expression. Hence, propaganda was conveyed in posters, songs aired on radio and movies in theatres worldwide. Audio and visual aids provided a lucid picture of happenings and task definition enabling the government to easily persuade the people to do their biddings. The movies were directed by famous people (such as Warner Brothers, Charles Chaplin), whom civilians thought were trust-worthy and thus easily swayed. Moreover, most propaganda accentuates the importance of war bonds in the War. Bugs Bunny in Any Bonds Today (Appendix 6) was saying that without the bonds, we cant make tomorrows plan, which is to win the war. Even in this song there is a propaganda poster (Appendix 5) on war, patriotism and to procure war bonds (Appendix 4). Smiths poster was specifically on war bonds but just in a different form. The poster illustrates the repercussions without war bonds and shows a Nazi shadow cast over children. Therefore, buying bonds will safeguard them from the Axis. Patriotism resulted in exceedingly successful recruitment and maintenance of peace in the country. Patriotism prevented war at home while combating enemies. It was evoked through a poster signifying victory (Appendix 5), shown as the backdrop of Clampetts movie and also through criticising and making Axis Powers look inferior. Hence, Allies gain confidence. Not all movies were totally censored by the government and thus contained more truths. However, animated cartoons were still successful. The audience were predominantly children and upon listening to the catchy tunes and vivid pictures, persuade their parents into buying bonds for their well-being. The success of war propaganda for bonds reaped 185 billion dollars enabling the vast expansion of arms. Chaplins speech gave Germany hope that when dictators die, liberty will return to the people; this helped alleviate tension in Europe. The song (Appendix 2) was performed by a band formed by the government for propaganda purposes. Their songs were highly popular at that era and helped stir patriotism in the Americans. All the propaganda, even if not asking to acquire war bonds, was useful in convincing the people that the Axis were inferior to the Allies. 3. Research Methodology We have evaluated the germane resources that we can access and selected four sources that we will be using in our paper. These sources are primary sources as they were produced and released during World War II. After the selection of the resources, we analysed each of the sources individually to detect the characteristics of each source. We also accessed the impact they had at that time derived from historical knowledge. We then look at critics standpoint of these sources and found out that reviews and critics on these sources were scarce and extraneous to our paper and we decided to prohibit these critics, as most did not have any relevance to our paper. Subsequently, we look at all the sources and list down their similarities and differences from the examination of each source. 4. Results Analysis All the sources that we have used proved to be valuable in showing us the influence these propaganda tools may even have on us. These sources were used by the Allies to convince the civilians that the Axis Powers are the unscrupulous guys and they are to remove these threats. Chaplins The Great Dictator and Almanac Singers Round and Round Hitlers Grave were aimed at Hitler and the purpose of the movie was to destroy Hitlers reputation. These sources ridicule Hitler and persuaded the people to despise and condemn him. Clampetts cartoons and Smiths poster applied more to the persuasion of the civilians to buy war bonds to help to lighten the burden the economy have to take. These sources use patriotism to persuade the civilians to help to buy war bonds. 5. Conclusion a. Has our research proved our hypothesis correct / wrong? Our research has proven our hypothesis correct. Our research had shown that propaganda helped to collect the necessary resources needed for war, which is money and manpower. In World War II, propaganda means had evolved into sophisticated structure where many factors are included. Propaganda became an essential tool that would be necessary in war, as it would help the government to haul support from the civilians in order to get enough resources for war. b. Questions for further research 1) Why did poems lose popularity as a form of propaganda means in World War 2? 2) How did movies gain popularity as propaganda means in the war? 3) Why were Audio Aids more effective than Audio-Visual Aids in the war as a propaganda tool? 6. Lloyds TSB - Employment :: Business and Management Studies

Lloyds TSB - Employment The employees of a business are extremely important to their success. If a company's workforce is functioning efficiently then costs can be cut, customer complaints will be reduced or handled with better answers. If someone is enjoying his work, that they feel they are going somewhere within the company. Things such as incentives will improve the quality of the staffs' service. Quality is always needed, if a company gets well known for it's excellent quality then it is on the road to success. As long as the company is able to at least break even. Lloyds TSB is a bank where they are trying to revolutionise banking. In recent years ATM machines have been brought in to most major streets in England. People rarely need to go into the banks these days, so the need for employees in the banks has been reduced. However, Lloyds TSB still has a large amount of employees and stakeholders in Britain. Social Marketing It is now widely agreed that companies need to have a more active approach towards their relationships with the parts of the community they serve. This is known as corporate social responsibility and centres on trying to show a positive commitment to its stakeholders and society. Social marketing is a new version of the traditional marketing systems and concentrates on:  · producing the right products  · producing at the right time  · producing in the right place  · producing at the right price But to these it adds a social dimension.
